The Belgian Cancer Registry (BCR) is obliged by law to register all new cancer diagnoses in Belgium (Health act of 13 December 2006). The cancer registration data are delivered by the oncological care programs, the laboratories for pathological anatomy and the health insurances and are collected in the Cancer registration database.
Additionally, all laboratories for pathological anatomy are legally obliged since 2010 (amendment to the Health Act of 2006) to transmit all the results of breast, cervical and colorectal samples to the BCR. These data are collected in a central Cyto-histopathology registry and used for the organization and evaluation of the cancer screening programs for breast-, cervix- and colorectal cancer in Belgium.
