Since 2005, diabetes centers (DC) in Belgium have the opportunity to sign a “revalidation contract related to the third line curative diabetic foot clinics” (the so-called “diabetes agreement”) with the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (RIZIV-INAMI) for diabetic patients with severe foot trauma.
This agreement formalises a number of organisational and financial aspects of diabetes care. It also stipulates that DCs are to participate in an audit aimed at improving quality of care. This audit is commissioned to the Scientific Institute of Public Health (WIV-ISP) and has been termed “Initiative for Quality Improvement and Epidemiology in Children in Diabetes Foot Clinics” (IQED-Foot).
