40 national reference centers (NRC's) for different pathogens or groups of pathogens have been selected in Belgium. Besides the support for individual diagnostic confirmation, these NRC's participate to microbiological surveillance and offer technical support to outbreak detection. In order to contribute to prevent and control these specific infectious diseases, data have to be collected in time in a proper centralised data reporting framework. As coordinator of the NRC project, the Belgian Scientific Institute of Public Health (WIV-ISP) developed therefor a web-based application and analysis platform.
