Registration projects in health and health care
The BNMDR was established in 2008. It is financed by the RIZIV-INAMI, but its content is managed by Sciensano, together with the neuromuscular reference centers. The objectives of the registry are to conduct scientific research (epidemiological, clinical, etiologic, ...) in the field of the neuromuscular diseases (NMDs), to support and improve health services given to NMD patients, and to guide the RIZIV-INAMI in providing appropriate care for those patients. It also facilitates patient recruitment for clinical trials.

The STI surveillance supports public health efforts by providing a framework for:
- Problem detection: surveillance can identify the emergence of a particular STI as well as changes in the levels of existing endemic STI. Certain STI, while not initially perceived as a problem in the population as a whole, may be a significant problem for specific sub-populations.
- Problem description: surveillance can identify factors mediating STI occurrence.
